ARTHUR B. SINGER AND SONS HEADLINE  ART SHOW

Original artwork by Arthur B. Singer (1917-1990), one of America ’s most famous bird illustrators, is showcased at a four-person exhibit starting at Windsor Whip Works Art Center in Windsor, NY .

Arthur B. Singer is best known for his books Birds of the World, Birds of North America, and Birds of Europe , which rank among the foremost bird guides ever published.  He received the Audubon Society’s first Hal Borland Award, and the Augustus St. Gaudens medal from his alma mater, The Cooper Union.

Singer’s two sons, Alan and Paul, have followed in their father’s footsteps and will also have paintings in the show.  Alan Singer, who teaches fine art at the Rochester Institute of Technology, collaborated with his father to design and illustrate a series of award-winning U.S. postage stamps featuring the “Birds and Flowers of the Fifty States.”  Alan’s work has been shown at The Smithsonian and at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Massachusetts.  Paul Singer, a nationally known graphic designer, resides in Brooklyn and loves to paint along the seacoast.

Donna Dodson, a sculptor from Jamaica Plain, MA, will round out the show with her dramatic wood carvings of female forms inspired by Egyptian, African, and Native American art.  Donna has been invited to participate in the premier Sculpture Residency in Verbier Switzerland by the 3D Foundation along with Andy Moerlein, who showed at Windsor Whip Works two years ago.  Dodson and Moerlein will be two of six internationally renowned artists who will create monumental sculptures that will form the collection of the 3D Sculpture Foundation.  Located in the Swiss Alps, Verbier is a world class destination for skiing, snow boarding, alpine hiking and is the home of the Verbier Classical Music Festival. Participating artists include Gregory Coates, Musa Hixson, Will Ryman, Kiki Thompson, Andy Moerlein and Donna Dodson
